Bengal government to market onions at Rs 59 per kg from fair price retailers With the cost of onions coming in contact with Rs 150 per kilogram in Kolkata, the West Bengal government on Sunday announced it will sell the veggie with a subsidised price from fair price shops within the city. Onions will be sold at Rs 59 per kilogram from 935 fair price shops in Kolkata from Monday, a Meals and Products Division official informed reporters.
“We will sell the veggie on the subsidised level after procuring it at market price from suppliers,” he explained. Every family will get at most one kilogram of onion at the same time on generating ration cards. State Schooling Minister Partha Chatterjee stated, “We are attempting to do our bit. But, the Middle will not seem to be worried about the spiralling costs of onions.”
