Citizenship Respond Protests: Portion 144 imposed in Northeast Delhi, 6 arrested over violence in Seelampur
Section 144 was imposed in northeast Delhi on Wednesday early morning after violent protests erupted in Seelampur and Jaffrabad section of east Delhi on Tuesday afternoon.
Prohibitory orders under Portion 144 of Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC) bans the set up of over four persons without the approval in the respective authorities concerned.
Six people have been arrested in relationship with the assault that happened on Tuesday and three FIRs have been lodged in relationship with the situation. Yet another FIR has become filed for stone-pelting that broke in the Brij Puri location.
Furious protesters demanding scrapping from the amended citizenship regulation torched several motor cycles, pelted rocks at law enforcement officials and damaged public vehicles in Northeast Delhi’s Seelampur yesterday.
Police resorted to baton costs and fired rip gas shells to disperse the protesters. Plumes of light up billowed from at least two localities. Law enforcement officials said two bicycles of traffic cops have been burnt by the demonstrators, including a law enforcement officials presentation area in the community was broken.
A lot of policemen have been deployed following the physical violence. Law enforcement officials stated the protesters were marching from Seelampur towards Jafrabad.
Clashes erupted between law enforcement officials and protesters at Seelampur Chowk once the security staff tried to stop them from relocating forward. Based on a older law enforcement representative, the protest started at about 12 pm. The protesters raised slogans up against the new regulation along with the National Register of Citizens (NRC).
The clashes erupted two days after physical violence broke out during a protest in the New Friends region in South Delhi near Jamia Millia Islamia, which led to protests at several colleges throughout the country from the law enforcement crackdown on protesting individuals.
