Thousands of protesters marched towards the Parliament Street from Ramlila Maidan on Wednesday, severely affecting traffic in parts of central Delhi.
Farmer associations such as All India Kisna Sabha (AIKS), All India Agriculture Workers Union (AIAWU) and Centre of Indian Trade Union (CITU) have come together to hold a rally under the banner of ‘Majdoor Kisan Sangharsh Rally’.
The rally that started from Ramlila Maidan will reach Jantar Mantar from Parliament Street.
They have been demanding minimum wages, more employment opportunities, and effective implementation of laws concerning them. The traffic conditions near Pragati Maidan and Janpath due to the rally were severely poor as commuters remained stuck on the road for hours.
The Delhi Traffic Police issued an advisory about the roads to avoid, mentioning that traffic would be diverted as and when required near Delhi Gate, Pahar Ganj Chowk, and on Minto Road, Bara Khamba Road, K G Marg , Janpath and Copernicus Marg.
The Delhi Traffic Police tweeted: “Sansad Marg, Janpath and K G Marg are closed for traffic movement due to procession/demonstration and Motorists are advised to take Baba Kharak Singh Marg and Ashoka Road as alternative route.”
