Lok Sabha to debate Triple Talaq Bill today

Both the Houses of Parliament will resume Thursday after a weekend and a three-day break on account of Christmas. The Lok Sabha is set to debate on the Muslim Women (Protection of Rights on Marriage) Bill, 2018. The Bill proposes all declarations of instant triple talaq void and illegal. It seeks to make the practice a punishable offence with imprisonment of up to three years. The Bill will replace the Muslim Women (Protection of Rights on Marriage) Ordinance-2018.  The National Medical Council (Amendment) Bill 2018 has also been listed among others for the day’s legislative business. In the Rajya Sabha, The Trafficking of Persons (Prevention, Protection and Rehabilitation) Bill 2018, and The National Council for Teacher Education (Amendment) Bill, 2018 and others have been listed for consideration and passing. So far, the Winter session of Parliament, which began on 11th of this month, has witnessed repeated disruptions on the issues of Rafale aircraft deal, construction of dam across Cauvery river, and financial benefits to Andhra Pradesh.
