Asserting that a “sense of fear†was spreading through the country, Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi on Saturday said Congress and its partners must come together to defeat the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS).
Speaking at the “No Peace Without Freedom” conference organised as part of week-long tribute to late Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru’s birth anniversary on November 14, Rahul Gandhi said: “The RSS does not begin to understand what it is going to face in the coming days. The Congress and you must bring forward ideas to defeat the RSS.â€
“What brings us together is our deep concern about the assault on our liberty, on our rights and democratic space. There is a sense of fear in the country today and the idea of India is under threat,†he added.
Praising Nehru for being a “deeply tolerant manâ€, the Congress vice-president said: “He (Nehru) saw strength in the fact that everybody had a different background and story.â€
Rahul Gandhi further said that the Congress was a “dynamic†party against communalism.
